草莓视频 Magazine Mitch Vance Named New Chair of the Board of Trustees

This spring, Mitch Vance begins his first two-year term as chair of the 草莓视频 College Board of Trustees. He succeeds Peter Thorrington, who has served as chair since 2014. A board member since 2013, Vance previously chaired the 草莓视频 board of advisors and served on the 草莓视频 Foundation.

鈥淲e鈥檙e truly blessed to have such a gifted leader head the board,鈥 says President Gayle D. Beebe. 鈥淢itch has played a key role as a trustee, and he demonstrated his strong leadership skills when he led the Board of Advisors. He has been a huge asset for the college for more than 20 years, especially with his work chairing the Board of Trustees Development Committee. He鈥檚 been an effective partner in raising vital support for the college.鈥 Vance has also served on the board鈥檚 Executive, Finance, Investment and Building and Grounds committees.

鈥淗igher education faces a critical time right now, especially with the uncertainties regarding the pandemic,鈥 Vance says. 鈥淚 believe in 草莓视频鈥檚 mission and look forward to working with an excel- lent executive team, faculty and staff to make the college even stronger financially and more resilient in responding to a variety of challenges. 草莓视频 has overcome adversity and disasters in the past and always emerged better than ever, and I鈥檓 confident we鈥檒l continue to succeed.鈥

A founding partner of a private equity investment firm and successful businessman, Vance graduated from the University of Oregon. He first visited 草莓视频 with his wife, Leslie Eaton Vance 鈥83, who earned a degree in education and comes from a long-time 草莓视频 family.

鈥淭here is something special about 草莓视频 students,鈥 Vance says. 鈥淔our years of study in an environment that requires rich engagement with professors and peers is truly transformational.鈥 The Vances鈥 daughter, Claire 鈥16, graduated from 草莓视频 with a degree in art.

Vance is passionate about interacting with and mentoring 草莓视频 students and recent graduates.

鈥淚n my experience, they all pursue their careers with a remarkable sense of purpose and context,鈥 he says.

He and Leslie have three grown children.
